With support received from players of People’s Postcode Lottery and Newcastle City Council Children North East has been able to work with a local dance artist to offer free dance classes to vulnerable young people in Newcastle.

The young people were all aged 10 to 18 years old and were from areas of Newcastle where opportunities to take part in cultural activities are limited.

Lesley Hutchinson, Service Manager at Children North East said, ‘The fantastic support from the players of People’s Postcode Lottery has allowed us to offer young people in some of the most deprived parts of Newcastle the opportunity to try new experiences and new skills which would otherwise not have been available to them.

The dancing sessions has allowed young people to achieve something real whilst they face other challenges that life throws at them such as homelessness.’

Tracey West, Dance Artist in Residency at Newcastle City Council who worked with Children North East said about working with the young people, ‘It was a heart warming and really exciting project to be involved in. Every week the young people were open to trying out new activities and widen their skills and knowledge.

Thanks go to Newcastle City Council’s, Dance City and Connor O Kane from The Bad Taste Cru who also offered funding, resources and support to make the project possible.'

The team is now looking to secure further funding to continue this great cultural work in the City.

Players of People's Postcode Lottery have raised £721,384 to date for Children North East.
